HOW TO TURN A FURNITURE PIECE INTO A VANITY
In our blue and playful cabana bath, we wanted something that felt just as fun as it was functional. Instead of sourcing a traditional vanity, we started with a standout piece: a Greek key dresser we found through Mintwood Home, and transformed it into a one-of-a-kind fixture that brought charm and personality to the space.
The conversion started by removing the original top and replacing it with a fresh slab of white quartz, an undermount sink, and holes for a widespread faucet. We loved the sculpted outline of the original dresser top, so we worked with our fabricator to preserve that unique detail, keeping a sense of its original silhouette intact.
To make the dresser fully functional, our carpenters reworked the middle drawer into a U-shape to accommodate the plumbing and allow for storage around the p-trap. The remaining drawer stayed intact, giving the piece both form and utility. For the finish, we chose Borrowed Light by Farrow & Ball, a soft, airy blue that tied perfectly into this cabana bath’s palette.
This was one of those projects that reminded us why we love what we do. Taking a piece with history and character and turning it into something entirely new felt incredibly rewarding. Funny enough, we transformed this vanity two years ago, and now The Well Appointed House has recently released a ready-made version using the same dresser base. The end result wasn’t just a vanity; it was a reflection of the playful spirit we wanted for this space and a reminder that custom doesn’t have to mean complicated. It just takes vision, the right materials, and a little creativity. You can shop all sources for this cabana bath here.
